As we dig deeper in the culture of Latin American countries, we begin to explore different types of economies and the factors that affect economic growth. Monday - 11/3 - Students begin to develop I WONDER questions about ECONOMICS. We work through a PPT - Economic Systems...up to Slide 13.
Tuesday - 11/4 - Using word cards made yesterday, students hold up the card naming the type of economy described in slides 14 to the end in the PPT from yesterday. Discuss slide 18 (Economic Continuum)Watch video of The Important Book http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmSRkxulmPo (3:33) Talk about the pattern of each page...Share examples by other 6th graders. http://www.writingfix.com/PDFs/Pic_Book_Prompt_Worksheets/Important_Book_3rd_samples.pdf Explain homework based on this book and using the four types of economies (traditional, market, command, and mixed.) Pass out ½ books with paper in them for students to write in for their book. DUE FRIDAY. Wednesday - 11/5 - Watch PPT - Factors of Economic Growth filling out graphic organizer. Students will be learning and exploring these vocabulary words: capital goods human capital natural resources entrepreneurship
Thursday - 11/6 - Students take their knowledge of economies and apply it to the Latin America countries of Brazil and Cuba. We work through the PPT Latin American Economies – Brazil and Cuba while students complete GO.
Friday - 11/7 - Today we share this week's homework project ... My Important Book About Types of Economies. First, we will talk about and practice giving constructive, specific, meaningful feedback. Then we will take a Gallery Walk of all of the books and comment as we see something. :-)
