After looking over the assessment from this unit, I do not feel like the students have a good grasp of this topic. Since the Georgia Milestones states that 30% of the test will cover the Number System, I feel like we need to spend more time practicing with rational numbers/integers. Here are some resources that your child can study at home in addition to the practice in class. Each has opportunities for extra positive Dojo points!

FYI - These may help you plan if your student plans on eating at ThunderZone on Friday, December 19th. If your student is ordering a school sack lunch, he/she will eat when we return from ThunderZone at 12:30. They do not allow outside food in the facility. We will dismiss at 1:00 that day.
Next week...
Monday is a FULL DAY. Tuesday - Group B - TEST ON RATIONAL NUMBERS Wednesday is a FULL DAY....dismiss at 3:15... BOTH GROUPS - Latin America HISTORY test... BOTH GROUPS - MATH MIDTERM (for those who do not have a "3" on a given area) Thursday is a FULL DAY - BOTH GROUPS - Latin America FINAL TEST - on features, environmental issues, economic factors, and history Friday is a HALF DAY...MIDDLE SCHOOL REWARD DAY - dismiss at 1:00 This week we finish up our study of Latin America. Our learning targets this week are:
We will test on Latin American history on Wednesday, Dec. 17. The final unit test on Latin America (covering their features, environmental issues, government, economic factors, and history) will be Thursday, Dec. 18. Monday - 12/8 - Using GO, work through PPT Latin American Independence Movement – slides 1 – 29-to learn about Toussaint L’Ouverture, Simon Bolivar, & Miguel Hidalgo. HOMEWORK - (DUE WEDNESDAY) Reading/questions and project choice (What’s in your Wallet? or Historical Marker)
Tuesday - 12/9 - 4-H Meeting Wednesday - 12/10 - Using GO, work through PPT The Cuban Revolution (28 slides). Students work with a partner to read and answer questions about the Cuban Revolution. HOMEWORK - Dumpster Diving Activity
Thursday - 12/11 - Using GO, work through PPT The Zapatista Movement (16 slides). Students work in groups with reading/questions Power to the People?A Case Study of the Zapatista Movement. Homework: Choice: Zapatista Action Figure or Opinion paragraph
Friday - 12/12 - Students work in groups to complete picture analysis activity. Then students work on Latin America History Study Guide.
This week we continue to reflect shapes across the x- and y-axes. We end the week exploring absolute value. We will review on 12/15 and test on 12/16. MONDAY - 12/8 - Pass out REFLECTION visual card for binders. Complete foldable 6.NS.6b reflecting #s across both axes with teacher. HOMEWORK: Reflection foldable (due WEDNESDAY)
TUESDAY - 12/9 - 4-H today. The following students volunteered to present their project: Christopher Christina Chloe Michaela T. Our community project includes: **collecting Kool-Aid packets and Ramen Noodles - these will be donated back to students in need throughout the county! Each item collected will count as one Club of the Month point AND will earn one positive Dojo point for Community Service! See attached for really great information involving: **computer give-away (I had several students win this a few years ago!) **4-H shirts for sale **brownie/cookie contest
Wednesday - 12/10 - Complete graphs with teacher writing inequality statements illustrating the distance between points. HOMEWORK - 2 pg solving problems with a grid
Thursday - 12/11 - Vocabulary: absolute value, magnitude, absolute value symbol. Introduce vocabulary through PPT – Intro to Absolute Value. (8 slides) Work through problems on PPT together. HOMEWORK - Absolute Value practice sheet
Friday - 12/12 - Complete Absolute Value PPT slides 73 – 76. Work through PPT slides 77 – to end practicing with absolute value in real life. (temperatures, debt, sea level). Students will take a QUIZ on absolute value today.
