Thank you for your support! Hayden Bogner and Andrew Bogner It is going to be a short week! Wednesday, we have team planning from 1 - 3 while the students rotate among Specials' teachers. Friday is a half-day and we will being dismissal at 11:30! On Tuesday, students will finish their Timeline activity that we began last Friday. On Wednesday, we will explore Australian government. SS6CG7 I can explain the structure of the national government of Australia. a. I can describe the federal parliamentary democracy of Australia, distinguishing form of leadership, and the role of the citizen in terms of voting and personal freedoms. When one compares governments, only the type leadership and the roles of the citizen are assessable. In identifying the type of leadership, students should know the type of leader (monarch, president, prime minister, etc.) and how this person becomes the country’s leader. For personal freedoms, students should understand those freedoms in terms of such things as freedom of speech and freedom of the press as understood in the United States.
On Thursday and Friday, we will explore the economy and lifestyle of Australia. Students will have a HAT project due next Tuesday describing Australia's economy on their hat! This is an opportunity for students to think "out of the box", be creative, and elaborate on their ideas. SS6G14 I can describe the cultural characteristics of people who live in Australia. The intent of this standard is for students to get a general idea of the broad cultural diversity in Australia. It is not necessary for students to understand all of the nuances of the various cultures of Australia. Students should understand what factors make cultures unique and what factors differentiate them from other groups. SS6G14a. I can explain the impact of English colonization on the language and religion of Australia. Students should understand that when the British arrived in Australia, it was already inhabited by Aborigines. Students should understand the impact colonization had on the culture of Australia. SS6E8c. I can describe the economic system used in Australia. SS6E10 I can describe factors that influence economic growth and examine their presence or absence in Australia. The generic elements in this standard are intended to be applied to Australia, the continent/country identified in the standard. The four elements in this standard focus on the factors that most influence economic growth in a nation. Students should be able to describe these factors and explain how the presence or absence of them has influenced economic growth in Australia. There are four factors - land, labor, capital, entrepreneurship - that influence economic growth. Three of the four- land, capital, and entrepreneurship - are addressed in these elements. Capital is split into two categories: human and physical. Economic growth is usually measured by calculating the percent increase in GDP from one year to the next. This is known as the GDP Growth Rate.
This week, we will finish up and review for Unit 5 - Expressions Expect a test on this Unit on Friday. Tuesday: exploring equivalent expressions MCC6.EE.4 Identify when two expressions are equivalent (i.e., when the two expressions name the same number regardless of which value is substituted into them.) For example, the expressions y + y + y and 3y are equivalent because they name the same number regardless of which number y stands for. I can prove (using various strategies) that two equations are equivalent no matter what number is substituted. Examples: y + y +y = 3y 4x + 3x = 7 9x – 3x = 6x
Wednesday and Thursday will be spent reviewing the 4 standards for the test on Friday. Please make sure you child is in school ALL DAY on Friday! THANKS
