Please attend our parent information night on Tuesday, September 16th at 6:00. We will give you an overview of expectations and events throughout the school year.
This is a great opportunity to ask questions about procedures, meet your child's academic teachers, and tour the school. We look forward to see you on Tuesday at 6pm at the Prestley Mill Campus. Thank you so much for supporting our school library fundraiser. We were able to surpass our goal of $3000, with our profits totaling over $5000! These funds will go directly to our new media center.
The cookie dough will be delivered on Thursday, September 18. Plan to come to Fowler field (at the entrance to the Brookmont neighborhood) from 2 - 4:30 pm Thursday to pick up your order. Each bucket weighs over 3 lbs. so we cannot send them home with students. Students in ASP will have their orders with them when they are picked up. Any remaining money due will need to be collected and returned to the school by September 24th, please be sure to send money in an envelope with the student's name and total amount enclosed, checks should be made out to Brighten Academy. If you would like to help volunteer to distribute orders please meet at Fowler Field at 2 pm. Again, thank you all so much for making this such a successful fundraiser for our library. There have been many technical and logistical issues with the Class Dojo since the beginning of the year. All of the middle school teachers are suspending the consequences for Class Dojo until further notice. We will still enter dings and dongs to help you know what is happening in class. Students will be able to dress down on Fridays until we have all of the issues worked out. Thank you for understanding, The Middle School Teachers Keep sending in your MONEY!
Our goal is $30.00 per homeroom! Many classes are very close, but still haven't reached the goal! We ALL want our middle school teachers to take the plunge!!! So, join us NEXT Wednesday, September 10th at 12:30pm!!!! This week we kicked off the middle school teachers' ice bucket challenge.
Each homeroom will be asked to raise one dollar per student to put their homeroom teacher into the challenge. All money collected will go to the ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) Association. ALS was first found in 1869 by French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot, but it wasn't until 1939 that Lou Gehrig brought national and international attention to the disease. Ending the career of one of the most beloved baseball players of all time, the disease is still most closely associated with his name. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. If a homeroom doubles their pledge, the class may vote on another teacher to receive an additional ice bucket. If the class triples their amount, a third teacher may be chosen to get an extra bucket OR the class may choose to have a teacher receive MULTIPLE ice buckets! The final day to donate money will be Tuesday, September 2nd. On Wednesday, September 3rd at 12:30, the middle school students and teachers will gather outside for a community circle. At this time, the middle school teachers will accept the challenge in front of the ENTIRE MIDDLE SCHOOL. Parents, guardians, and friends are welcome to attend. We are in need of some grass cutting, edging, and trimming at the Prestley Mill location.
Double credit will be offered. If you can help out this Saturday, August 30th at 8:00 a.m. please come to the Prestley Mill location. Please bring any equipment needed. Thank you! PLEASE SEND IN WITH YOUR STUDENT!!!
