A Christmas Carol
Family Discussion Points Like Esperanza and Kevin, Scrooge changes and grows during the course of the story. He moves from selfish and self-centered to a kind and giving man. You might want to discuss this common theme between these books. Marley is doomed to walk the Earth burdened by the weight of his sins and crimes. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss how this is similar or different from your beliefs and the beliefs of your faith. Poverty and our responsibility to others is a huge part of the story. In Dickens' time, people often went to debtor’s prison. In fact, Dickens' father spent time in debtor’s prison. You might want to talk about how things have changed. For many Americans, this is a “hot” political topic. Once again, we see the strength of family and friends as an important part of the story. You might want to discuss Scrooge’s treatment of his family and by his family. You might also want to discuss the strength and love demonstrated by Tiny Tim’s family. Liar, Liar Christmas Carol, Alliance Theater, December 3 I am excited about our trip to see A Christmas Carol, on December 3. It will be a wonderful way to introduce the elements of drama. We must submit the final payment on November 3, so permission slips and payment information will be coming home soon. The cost should not exceed $25.00. We have a limited number of seats for chaperones. If you are interested in being a chaperone please send a note with your child by Thursday, October 12. In order to be a chaperone, you must have a background check on record at the school. If we have more people interested than seats available, we will have a drawing on Thursday, October 12, to determine who gets to go on the trip. Unfortunately, there are no free seats and the cost for chaperones will also be approximately $25.00. Your request to chaperone must come with your child not through EMAIL.
