All middle school students will start getting math homework.
6th grade students’ assignments will be as noted in their agendas
7th grade students’ assignments will be due on ‘B’ Days
8th grade students’ assignments will be due on ‘A’ Days
The assignment will be written in their agenda with the number of problems they are to do. The assignments are a review of skills that they have mastered with me and need to keep practicing. These are not new skills and your child should not be overwhelmed by the assignment.
please contact me at [email protected] if the work is becoming overwhelming for them or they are saying they can’t remember.
MATH JOURNALS
Students will also have a Math Journal that they need to keep up with. The purpose of the journal is for them to become aware of math in their everyday lives. They need to write down at least 3 things a week. I have included samples of 3 different problems in their notebooks.
They should…
Write out the problem as a word problem which should tell the setting and what they had to figure out.
They need to circle or box the important information within their problem that helps them to solve the problem. What words they used when writing the problem that would lead them to choosing the correct operation, what numbers did they use, etc.
They need to work the problem out in the notebook and CIRCLE and LABEL their answer.
The journal should be completed neatly and using the lines. They should not be skipping around.
I have given the students examples and encourage them to keep an open mind. They will be graded on doing the correct math, completing 3 problems a week, and showing their work. I encourage them to use color!
We will be adding notes to these as well in classes so they need to BRING THEM EVERYDAY!
