The generic elements in this standard are intended to be applied to Australia, the continent/country identified in the standard. The four elements in this standard focus on the factors that most influence economic growth in a nation. Students should be able to describe these factors and explain how the presence or absence of them has influenced economic growth in Australia. There are four factors - land, labor, capital, entrepreneurship - that influence economic growth. Three of the four- land, capital, and entrepreneurship - are addressed in these elements. Capital is split into two categories: human and physical. Economic growth is usually measured by calculating the percent increase in GDP from one year to the next. This is known as the GDP Growth Rate.
